The boondock saints

There are movies you watch because they're funny, others because they make you cry, some because they are thrilling and others because it gives you a boner. These tow movies are sure to satisfy every single one of those requirements. If in singularity they are case to seriously consider together, there's just nothing that can compare.
I declare this to be the best squeal ever made... In my humble opinion of course

But if you're not convinced hear this:

A Serious Man (2009)

I've seen 3 of the Coen brothers' movies, so I think I can already make some judgement. It may not be fair, or true to their real style, but it's what I can.

Coen brothers' movies = dark humor with no real point...

I guess that's it, their movies aren't comedies but you can still laugh, their humor is intelligent and it's more like nothing's going on. It's like they caught someone's life in the middle, started shooting and made a movie with that.
This one in particular is quite good. Everything is going wrong to a middle aged physicist (some resemblence with someone's future is pure coincidence), no one seems to be able to help and... well that's it. Quite an emotional ending, because... it just ended. Like that.
So my analysis can be somehow reformulated.

Coen brother's movies = 1 to 2 hours of (funny) 'things' with no real point = life.

3..2..1 Numb

This movie turned out to be not such a waste of time as i initial thought it would.
I love Matthew Perry, he's great. Not only as Chandler but also as a screwed up guy. And is well known I love screwed up people!

Watch this movie. It's worthy of your time.

On the Box Office

It actually makes me kind of sad...
I don't know where Milady got her intel, and although I don't think Avatar as yet surpassed Titanic in the all time box office results, I know it's just a matter of time.
Don't get me wrong, they both are great movies, and I'm not gonna argue Cameron's work, wich I know is amazing and deserves all the credit (by god, each time he makes a movie it sets the industry standards!). But I'm sad because Titanic actually had some (very little) insight and some plot thickness behind it. And Avatar has none of those. Yes, it's an amazing visual (more like a full body sensoring) experience... but that's it! No story at all! It's as hollow as a sea shell!

And people got convinced by all sorts of weird promotions and publicity from around Hollywood, from big stars who didn't even have a role in it (this still lags to enter my head).
And another thing, this is a theater movie. What I mean is, there's no real fun in watching it on DVD or BluRay because it looses all it is when it leaves the theaters doors. And besides, the ticket prices for the 3D version are bigger, wich means it's hard to say more people have watched it, you can only say it earned more money.

Just insights from someone who has watched Avatar and felt: "The part of my brain that's actually used to think, was just numb for 2 hours."

The HO (ho! ho ho Jesus!!) in Ohio

Imdb gives it a 5.8 i say let's give ti a 7.
It's not a good movie, because it haas a poor script, poor acting, it seems like the story is incomplete, and Danny DeVito ends up being the gallant hero that literally fucks it all around.
But when you see it after a thanks giving dinner only with really not uptight  friends and closed age family, and then you join all for a good evening in front of the tv, looking for some laughs and embarrassing moments, this is a movie to consider
In the end... Fuck!

The Mist

It is one of the best movies I've seen lately.
There are those horror movies who, put simply, just scare you... You know, loud noises, bloody people, etc. There are those with creatures so ugly and so unrealistic that it just takes all the fear away, because they are not believable enough.
This film has that: crazy creatures coming out of nowhere, ugly injuries, some scary moments (I jumped off my chair a couple of times), but it has something else. It has a whole different "theme" in which you see people's fears taking the best of them. You see how humans really are, when in danger, how their beliefs and their survival instinct can make them do unbelievable stuff.
Quoting:

Amanda Dunfrey: You don't have much faith in humanity, do you?
Dan Miller: None, whatsoever.
Amanda Dunfrey: I can't accept that. People are basically good; decent. My god, David, we're a civilized society.
David Drayton: Sure, as long as the machines are working and you can dial 911. But you take those things away, you throw people in the dark, you scare the shit out of them - no more rules.
In every way it's one of the most realistic portraits of fear I have seen in a movie. And although there are limits (which the end might have passed), you do some crazy shit when you're afraid.
The end is, to say the least, controversial. I admit it's completely out of character, completely unexpected from those people we've been getting to know the last 90 minutes. But it's beautiful! A twist in the plot that shocks you to the core, and gets out of the ordinary without being completely stupid. It is unrealistic: the army, the relative "easyness" of the killing, the timing... But that's the intention! And I love a movie where you can't tell what's coming. I love when it ends with you still thinking about it, still rationalizing it.

I went with little (plot-thickness-wise) expectations, and got out with enough to write a few lines of text, so it was good. I totally recommend!

The Guitar (2008)

It's a good movie, maybe kind of boring sometimes. I think all the scenes with the little girl were a little too much. But it's a good story, not very usual (although the bottom line IS very common) and she does a great job creating emphaty with the character.

Everyday we get a new chance to change everything, start over again, and everyday we miss it. Pretty much all we cover is secure territory, and that's good in the sense that we always have backup, there's always a net to fall into. But we eventually leave behind our dreams. Maybe when we realize it, there will be not enough time anymore...

"Though no one can go back and make a brand new start, anyone can start from now and make a brand new ending"

Molly

I'll give you one piece of advice: if you wanna see an excellent movie, don't see it on Sonny Entertainment Television...
That said, I saw Molly tonight. And it was really good! The acting was crap, and all the rest was not spectacular, but it was nice to watch.
My point is: sometimes it's fine to settle with imperfection... =)

"Arrivederci"

Really, really good! So typical of him. It's this feeling of preverse fun while strong, grotesc, visual evil is on the screen, that Tarantino mastered so well, that makes me love his movies.

Happy endings

A story about an heterosexual man falling for an homosexual woman. If anything, it is unpredictable; the characters are not what you expect them to be, they're not as hollywoodesc as they are real. It makes an interesting point on homosexuality: it's rare enough to find the right person, someone who's everything you've ever wanted, why should you still impose limits of gender on that right person?
On the negative side, they yell SO much, and her voice might irritate some sensitive souls...
No happy ending. 7.3/10

The 3rd best musical I've ever seen. The typical couple-in-love-bad-man-trying-to-separate-them story taken to the extreme both visually and musically. It's a feast to the eyes, just superb, and the soundtrack is one of the best ever.
Ewan McGregor is almost at his best (and the man can sing!) and Nicole Kidman is... stunning! I've never seen her more beautiful.
No happy ending. 8.2/10

This is one of those movies. Those Before the Sunrise's of the world. Brilliant. The best original soundtrack I've seen in a film, strong, yet simple performances, a good story...what more do you want? An happy ending. Not in this one though, this is a story about love, strong but (and?) unfulfilled love.
"What's the Czech for "Do you love him"?"
No happy ending. 8.5/10

I guess life is not a movie. There's no "everything will be ok" and no "lived happily ever after". In the end, it's not who you love that matters, it's how. It's the attitude you take life with.

Happy endings only depend on where you choose to stop your story.

Sex Drive

The funniest movie I've seen lately:

"What's up?
What's up, what's up?"

Watch it! But a piece of advise, don't watch the unrated version, it's just boobs and naked ladies walking around... so stupid :/

Zip-a-dee Doo-Dah

Following deWinters advice i'm going to review some movies, starting with the song of the south. This is a pretty old movie and most of you haven't seen it or just forgot how it went. (I've also forgoten how it ended, and how was the plot). But one thing i never ever letted slip my mind was this great song Zip-a-dee Doo-dah.

If you're planing on seeing it now i must advise you to search in the cinemateca.

Have a good one,
John Scar Kramer
