My father said that today’s economic crisis is going to be a test to our desire for democracy in the western world.
We, who sing freedom all the time, may now step over those words, to break this negative tendency. It is not a new thing, but still, it is different to what happen in the past.
In the past crisis always were around when war approached, and then we knew who our enemies were. The Romans fought the Greek; the Muslins fought the Christians, Portuguese fought the Spanish; English fought the French; And each knew who their enemy was. But today we live in a society who sworn to protect peace at all cost, and faces an invisible enemy.
Every day since the nine eleven, we have been sold the idea that we are at war with terror, we’re at war with terrorism, and that we’re at war with an invisible enemy.
That would not be a problem the to fight against this idea that spoiled the minds of those misguided, created a great deal of suffering to this society we call our own; The thing is that by fighting this idea of terror, got into our ears and created a fear that was never before known, (and you just need to look around to see it) every day people are discriminated because of the idea that a terrorist lives right next to you, every day we have less freedom and privacy, because of terror.
Adding plus the economic crisis, I’m not certain that we will not give up our freedom for security. For someone to tell us who our enemy really is or just to give us a target in witch we can blame the mess we are in.
My Friends I fear that in a short period of time will throw the Universal Declaration of Human Rights out the window and do what the Romans did (and for a fresher example) or what the Germans after the First World War did. I already see the mobs’ marching, and extremist group gather more and more troops. I tell you this has a Friend “Our next steps are critical,” I’m warning you (history does have the tendency to repeat itself).
We may have a new Holocaust in our hands ready to blow, just watch it.
